-
Local Knowledge
Brisbane's green heart, Mt. Coot-tha, is the trail runner's playground within reach of the city. It offers a huge variety of trails, hills and start points, and caters for easy runs through to gruelling hill sessions and everything in-between.
This suggested loop is an easy one to follow if you're new to the trails in Brissie. It circumnavigates the main hill, where you'll spot lots of side trails inviting you to come back and explore Coot-tha's trail smorgasbord.
Park at the Hoop Pine car park and run clockwise along the flat path, parallel to the main road around to Slaughter Falls car park and Mahogany Track. Begin the climb up Mahogany and continue up until at 3.5km where you head past the yellow gate and straight ahead for the singletrack of Litchfield. Enjoy winding your way through the trees until the singletrack brings you back to the top of the Powerful Owl, at the Channel 9 TV station at 6.4kms. Bear right onto Powerful Owl and stick to it, bearing straight on rolling up before a steep down to the bottom, where you turn right through the yellow gate into Silky Oak par park. Follow the paved path beyond the stairs ahead of you back to where you started at Hoop Pine.Pro Tips
- You can run this loop anti-clockwise, but Powerful Owl trail is a steep start for the uninitiated.
